Why should you need a dehumidifier?

My friends always ask me why I don’t have a dehumidifier. I always tell them the same thing. I don’t know why I need one. They always give me several reasons after that. They tell me that if I had a dehumidifier, we would spend more time over at my house. They tell me that on a hot, humid, summer day a dehumidifier can make my house much more comfortable. It would not feel so sticky in my house. My skin would not feel sticky and clammy, and the air would not feel “thick” and difficult to breathe in. They tell me that if I had a dehumidifier, I could use it with my air conditioner and the temperature in my house could go down around twenty degrees. This could make it easier for me to sleep on hot, humid summer nights.

Another reason that people tell me that I need a dehumidfier is my mold problem in my house. My house is always so humid that mold has grown in several different places. It has cost me more money than I can afford. It first started in the corner of my basement. I was storing some boxes containing old clothes, blankets, books, and papers. At first I smelled mold and mildew around the boxes but saw nothing. After a few weeks I noticed mold spots, both on he boxes, and on the objects inside. These boxes were ruined and some of the boxes had special mementoes in them. My washing machine overflowed onto the floor. I think that is what caused the mold to ruin my boxes. I didn’t get rid of the carpeting, or even try to dry it up with towels. The mold ruined the carpeting. I was forced to tear out the carpet and the pad. Unfortunately, I waited too long to do this and the mold spread around the room and behind the walls. By the time I took care of the mold, it ended up costing me a fortune.

If all the money I could have saved wasn’t reason enough to purchase a dehumidfier, my friends gave me another reason. My health. They have told me that mold can actually be harmful to my health. While I was tearing out my carpet due to the mold, I began to get sick. I was getting a stuffy nose and I began having problems breathing. I believed that it was some type of respiratory infection. I continued to have hay fever like symptoms which became worse when I went into the basement. After my friends told me their theory, I went to see my doctor. It was true, and I had an allergy to mold. I could not believe it. Purchasing a dehumidifier was all I needed to begin to feel better.

Dehumidifiers come in all shapes and sizes, they make them for every room in the house, and they are very reasonably priced. By listening to my friends and purchasing a dehumidifier, I felt better, my home was in better shape , an so were my finances. A dehumidifier is a great investment.
