Stachybotrys Black Mold Testing and Cleanup
Gordon

Defined Tag:

Stachybotrys is a toxic black mold that can cause pulmonary hemorrhorage, a severe illness where infants cough up blood. Not all black mold is stachybotrys, but it's important to perform tests on your mold, especially if you have infants in the house, to determine whether or not your mold is stachybotrys. You can purchase stachybotrys black mold testing kits from most hardware stores. These kits are usually fairly inexpensive. Be wary of stachybotrys testing kits you purchase online, or of testing services you find online. Many times such services will try to overcharge you.

Not all black mold is stachybotrys. However, cleanup is done much the same way. The main thing you need to keep in mind is to be extra careful. Infants are more susceptible to stachybotrys than adults, but you still don't want to breathe any of the spores. Use a dust mask whenever cleaning any kind of black mold, and always spray the mold down to prevent spores from getting into the atmosphere. The last thing you want is to spread the problem around the rest of your house! However, be aware that stachybotrys doesn't spread as easily as other black molds. Your main concern will be not getting the spores into the atmosphere where people can breathe them. Stachybotrys requires very wet conditions to grow, and it grows only on porous surfaces. Ceiling tiles and drywall are often problematic if you have a leak somewhere. Stachybotrys black mold testing kits can often pinpoint problem areas; you'll want to focus cleanup and any repairwork on those areas.
Stachybotrys black mold testing is a good way of determining whether or not the mold in your home actually is stachybotrys. But it isn't cleanup...which is just one more reason home testing kits are such a good idea. You don't want to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars for a company to come in and just *identify* the mold, or even identify it and find it. That money is much better spent hiring professionals to clean the mold out, especially if you don't feel qualified to work with toxic molds.
